TIPS FOR SELECTING A CAREER

  1.  Assess your interests

    • Spend some time thinking about your interests and talents.

    • Consider your dream job. If you had no constraints, what would you do? What would your ideal workday, tasks, environment, and interactions look like?

    • Take career assessments to get matched with possible career paths based on your skills and interests. Make an appointment to discuss your results with your counselor.

  2.  Research Potential Careers

    • Research careers of interest using the Occupational Outlook Handbook or Mynextmove.org. Look for careers that combine several of your interests.

    • Talk with friends and family members about their experience choosing a career. Find out how they ended up there and what they like about their job.

  3.  Gain Experience

    • Consider volunteering somewhere within your field of interest.

    • Meet with the work based learning coordinator to ask about potential field trip or internship opportunities.
